Voltage ratings

Voltage ratings are in accordance with DIN VDE 0100, and are based on the Test Voltage (the maximum voltage before insulation break-down or spark-over) and a rating factor based on the environment in which the connector is used. Check local applicable standards to ensure compliance, if required.

Class A0

Low power equipment used in air-conditioned or dry rooms in circuits that do not permit significant heat generation under short-circuit conditions.

Class A

Equipment used in air-conditioned and dry rooms.

Class B

Equipment in dwelling spaces, offices and commercial rooms, light assembly areas, laboratories, clinics, hospitals etc.

Class C

General industrial, commercial, agricultural, manufacturing, un-air conditioned warehouses etc.

Class D

Unprotected connectors on vehicles exposed to brake dust, splashing, snow & ice.

Example:

The C5273-4-ET015-2N-0-AM insert has a test voltage rating of 1,750V.

When used in a steel mill (Class C) it would have a working rating of 250V AC.

When used on a flight simulator (Class A) it would have a working rating of 750V AC.

Current Ratings

Current ratings are limited by the acceptable rise in temperature of the contact. This is affected by a number of factors, including:

1. The allowable temperature of the connector.
2. Ambient temperature.
3. The current.
4. Heat transfer (affected also by the number of pins, their proximity, and the current flowing in adjacent pins).
5. The material of the connectors, and the plating.

Single Contacts

Current ratings for single pins are given in the table below, based on: 120°C temperature, 23° ambient, single contact, silver plated brass

Multiple Contacts

Ratings for multiple contacts are greatly complicated by thermal limitations. The "per pin" ratings given in the specification tables for the inserts 95274, 95275, 95273 and 95273 Quick-Change are de-rated based on the number of contacts in the insert, and the probable average loading of each contact.
